TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS.
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:

A. Demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Students)
B. Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

My Narrative:  This graduate class was an adventure for me.  I truly thought I had all the skills necessary for the technology world. Boy was I wrong.  I learned a bunch of new concepts, skills, programs and ways of staying aware of what is available for teachers in the technological world that we live in.

I plan to continue adding to my personal tool belt different technology knowledge.  As quickly as the schools are adapting, I must even faster to stay ahead of the game and right there for my students.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES.
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:

A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
B. Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
C. Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. Plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
E. Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

My Narrative:  I have learned how to design website, my very one! I learned to read, instruct and create a webquest.  I have better knowledge of how to conduct research on the web and how to find appropriate websites for students.  I have taught 3 sessions of a computer class to my placement of second grade students.  They learned the names of computer parts, how to log on, how to use type to learn and kidpix.  I developed an additional website for the Hilhi Junior Cheer program.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Teachers implement curriculum plans, which include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:

A. Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
B. Use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
D. Manage student-learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.

My Narrative:  I met the objectives in a variety of ways.  First, my word processing skills have marked improvement.  I no longer need to look at the keyboard while I type.  Secondly, I learned how to really know what is a true website and what is a paid advertisement.  I even helped in my placement with this at a small staff development.  Learning to navigate around the Oregon Department of Education website is a great accomplishment.  It can be very hard to use and find required materials.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:

A. Apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. Apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

My Narrative:  These objectives were the hardest for me to define and to note accomplishment.  However, once discussed and reflected upon it is easy to see just how they were met.  First, learning to use the computer-based report cards at my school was easy.  They are a great tool for teachers and much easier to store.  One disk and you are good to go.  Learning to look up benchmarks for both the State and the Hillsboro School district was a great asset.  Using the DIBELS database to interpret,  print and store data was a huge challenge however, a great asset in my placement.  I foresee this as being a continuing area of growth throughout my teaching career.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:

A. Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. Apply technology to increase productivity.
D. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

My Narrative:  These objectives have been met, but barely.  I feel that this is the area most likely to be continued as I grow in the teaching profession. I have only hit the tip of the iceberg here.  If would be interesting to see what I will be able to add to this list of exhibits one year from now.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES.
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:

A. Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
B. Apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
C. Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
E. Facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.

My Narrative:  I have met these objectives by really focusing on what is right for students, parents and staff.  Making sure to always communicate the safe ways to explore the internet, making sure that all students have an equal opportunity to learn use and master technology.  This will be an ongoing challenge for me as a teacher.

Final Reflection

Before taking this class, I thought I pretty much knew how to do everything.  Boy was I wrong.  This class took me places that I never thought I would go with technology.  It pushed me way out of my comfort zone, and challenged me, frustrated me and even brought me to tears a couple of times (like this project for example).

The most difficult project for me was the TEAM video.  It was not because I had to video myself, it was the actual process of making a movie, editing it, storing it, voice over, cutting frames you name it.  However, with a little help from my friends and a drive from within, I did it.  I actually feel kind of proud.  Do I want to o it again? No!  Will I?  Yep!  Just have to make a movie of when my 73-year-old mom comes to my second grade placement as the tooth fairy.  You KNOW that will be good!

In the future, I see myself slowly moving towards trying new things with technology.  Putting more tools in my tool belt and maybe even not being so scared of trying new things.  For me this class truly turned out to be the process and not the product.  That is how I choose to rate my success, and I was successful.
